LFG Solutions

Collect and Capture Technologies

Instead of escaping into the air, LFG can be captured, converted, and used as a renewable energy resource. Using LFG helps to reduce odors and other hazards associated with LFG emissions, and prevents methane from migrating into the atmosphere and contributing to local smog and global climate change. In addition, LFG energy projects generate revenue and create jobs in the community and beyond.

Landfill gas can be recovered and utilized to generate electricity, fuel industries and heat buildings. There are two major benefits to recovering and utilizing landfill gas. The first is that capturing and combusting landfill gas prevents substances like methane from escaping to the atmosphere; the second is that using the energy from landfill gas can replace the use of non-renewable sources of energy such as coal, oil, or natural gas.

Wells and Pipelines

Over time, as a Landfill grows, deep wells or trenches can be drilled into the garbage to extract the Landfill Gas (LFG). The proper design and construction of the wells is critical to the success of the project.

Landfill topography plays a very important role in determining where pipelines will run. No two Landfills are contoured the same, with hills and valleys, high and low spots. Unlike traditional oil & gas pipelines, elevation change creates major challenges in transporting LFG smoothly and efficiently.

Opportunities with LFG Capture & Collection

Generating power from captured LFG and selling it to the Electrical Grid can provide immediate ROI and "Green" power to thousands of people within a community.

Destroying LFG through burning or flaring the methane also creates government mandated Carbon Offset Credits, also known as Greenhouse Gas (GHG) credits. The revenue stream from these marketable credits can be a benefit to Landfill operators and municipalities, and offset the costs of LFG capture.

Transforming methane into electricity allows it to be used as a resource rather than becoming a pollutant in the atmosphere.
